Speaker Bio

Leslie Keller is a native of Conover, NC. She is an academically trained career museum professional, author, and historian with a B.A. in History from Lenoir-Rhyne University, an M.A. in History from Wake Forest University, and an M.A. in Public History and Museum Studies from Middle Tennessee State University. Early professional work experience included Curator at Traveler’s Rest Historic House Museum in Nashville, Tennessee and Collections Manager at Belle Meade Plantation in Nashville, Tennessee.

More recently, beginning in 2001, Leslie served the Hickory Landmarks Society in various skilled positions, including Curator of Collections, Education Coordinator, and Assistant Administrator before becoming Executive Director in January 2023.

Women Who Shaped Hickory's History

Leslie will be presenting about prominent women in Hickory's history, including the matriarch of the Shuford family of Maple Grove. Hickory's early female architects and photographers, and the prominent artist who was the co-founder of Hickory Landmarks Society and early member of the Historic Preservation Commission.
